Latest Landlord and tenant news - Right to Rent legislation

New “Right to Rent” Legislation coming into force from  1st February 2016

Under this new legislation, an owner who is letting a property has a legal duty to check identity documents for all new tenants and take copies. A range of commonly available documents can be used.

All new tenants will have to undergo these checks, but people with a legitimate right to be here should have no trouble proving it.

Alternatively, if you use a reputable lettings agent, they can do the checks for you - as long as they agree in writing to take on the legal responsibility.

So, as part of our tenant-find service or our fully managed service we can take on the responsibility of checking that any new tenants do indeed have the Right to Rent as well as passing our rigorous referencing process.
